Bioluminescence; a night of magic

Our sustainable earth homes are located along Costa Rica's Pacific Ocean, where we want to invite you to experience one of nature's wonders. As the sun sets, it's time to get ready for the magic that occurs in the still waters of Tambor.

What is bioluminescence

Bioluminescence is a captivating natural event where living beings light up. It happens in creatures like algae and plankton. They glow because of a special chemical reaction, that can take place when the water moves. So, when there's gentle movement in the water, like paddling with a kayak, these tiny organisms light up. They turn the underwater world into a magical display of shimmering light. It shows the harmony between the sea life and the rhythm of the water.

The rarity of bioluminescence

Encountering bioluminescence is a rare and magical experience that can only be found in a few places in the world. We are lucky enough to be one of them! Located near Casa Verdessa, this special occurrence adds an extra layer of magic to your stay with us.

An unforgettable experience

In the past, some cultures believed that waters glowing with bioluminescence had healing properties. They also believed swimming in these shimmering waters would keep them young forever. Whether the age-old beliefs are true or not, you might consider experiencing it for yourself.
